Tutorials, from A to Z
Step-by-step guides for everything — from your first Demo Mode visit to multi-branch management.
Getting started
From download to your first customer — no onboarding call needed.
Try SaloonQ in Demo Mode (no account needed)
Explore the full app with a working sample salon — no account, no credit card, no setup.
- 1Download SaloonQ from the App Store on your iPad or iPhone.
- 2Open the app and tap “Continue in Demo Mode” on the welcome screen.
- 3Walk through Reception, the section queues, the live display, and the dashboard with realistic sample data.
- 4When you're ready for your real salon, leave Demo Mode from Settings and create your account.
Tip: Demo Mode is local sample data only — nothing you do in it affects a real salon, so tap everything.
Create your salon and subscribe
Your salon account is created on the iOS app, and one subscription unlocks every platform.
- 1Open SaloonQ on your iPad or iPhone and choose to create a new salon account (owner email + password).
- 2Pick a plan — Basic (one branch) or Pro (multiple branches), monthly or annual.
- 3Complete the purchase; billing is handled securely by Apple through your Apple ID.
- 4That's it — the iPad app and the web dashboard unlock automatically for your salon.
Tip: The web dashboard can take a few moments to see a brand-new subscription. If it still shows “Subscription required”, tap “I've subscribed — re-check”.
Set up your branch, sections, and services
Sections are your salon's stations (Hair, Nails, Makeup…), and each offers its own services.
- 1Open Settings in the app or the web dashboard.
- 2Confirm your branch details (name shows on the display and printed slips).
- 3Add a section for each station in your salon — e.g. Hair, Nails, Makeup.
- 4Add services under each section, so reception can assign them to visits.
- 5Create a display screen for your waiting room (you'll pair a TV or browser to it later).
Add staff and create station codes
Staff sign in either with their own account or with a shared station code + PIN on the section iPad.
- 1Open Settings → Staff (owner or manager).
- 2Add each staff member with a role: manager, reception, or section staff.
- 3For shared iPads, create a station code — pick the branch, the section (for section stations), a short code, and a PIN.
- 4Hand the code + PIN to the team at that station; they sign in without needing a personal account.
Tip: Deactivate a station code any time to instantly cut that station's access — useful when staff change.
Daily operations
The rhythm of a working day — walk-ins, appointments, and the section queues.
Create a visit for a walk-in
Every customer becomes a numbered visit in seconds, and joins the fair queue automatically.
- 1Open Reception on the iPad or web.
- 2Tap to add a new visit and enter the customer's name.
- 3Select her services — one or several, across any sections.
- 4Save. She gets the next visit number and appears in each section's queue.
- 5Print her visit slip so she can follow her number on the waiting-room screen.
Book and check in appointments
Appointments and walk-ins share one fair queue — booked customers get priority when they arrive.
- 1Open Appointments and create a booking with the customer's name, services, and time.
- 2When she arrives, check her in from Appointments (or Reception).
- 3She joins the same queue as walk-ins, with booked-customer priority.
- 4A walk-in who has waited past your limit (30 minutes by default) is automatically bumped up so appointments can't skip her forever.
Call, start, and complete customers in a section
Each section runs its own first-ready queue, and every action updates the live display instantly.
- 1Open your section's queue (section iPad or web).
- 2Tap Call on the next customer — her visit number flashes on the waiting-room display.
- 3When she sits down, tap Start to begin the service.
- 4Tap Complete when done. If she has more services, she moves on to the next section's queue automatically.
Tip: Queue actions need a live connection. If a button seems to do nothing, make sure you're not in Demo Mode and the device has internet — then retry.
Follow a multi-service visit
Visit details show the whole journey — every service, its status, timing, and a full timeline.
- 1Open Visits and tap any visit (or tap a visit card from Reception).
- 2Review each service's status: waiting, called, in progress, or completed.
- 3Watch the progress bar and timeline to spot where a customer is right now.
- 4Reprint the visit slip from here whenever needed.
Monitor your floor from the dashboard
The realtime dashboard is your live floor view — on web or iPad, per branch.
- 1Sign in at the web dashboard (or open Dashboard on the iPad) as owner or manager.
- 2See waiting, active, and completed visits update live.
- 3Check section load to spot bottlenecks — a busy Nails queue next to an idle Hair chair.
- 4Use the numbers at closing time as your day's summary — no manual counting.
Waiting-room display
The “now serving” board your customers watch — on Android TV, iPad, or any browser.
Show the live display on any screen or browser
Any device with a browser can be your waiting-room board — a smart TV browser, an old iPad, a PC on a screen.
- 1Create a display screen in Settings (one per waiting room).
- 2Open the display link for that screen in the device's browser.
- 3Put the browser in full-screen mode.
- 4The board shows one “now serving” entry per section, updating in realtime.
Pair an Android TV in seconds
The dedicated SaloonQ display app for Android TV / Google TV pairs with a QR code — no typing accounts on a TV remote.
- 1Install the SaloonQ display app on your Android TV and open it.
- 2The TV shows a short pairing code and a QR code.
- 3On your iPad, open the display pairing screen in Settings and scan the TV's QR code (or type the short code).
- 4Choose which display screen the TV should show — the board appears immediately.
- 5If you replace or retire a TV, its pairing can be revoked at any time — the screen then returns to pairing mode.
Tip: The TV never signs in with your salon account and never shows private customer data — it only displays the public board.
Brand your display with your colors and logo
The waiting-room board should look like your salon, not a generic queue screen.
- 1Open your display screen's settings.
- 2Set your brand colors and background.
- 3Upload your salon logo.
- 4Check the result in the waiting room — changes apply live.
Printing visit slips
A printed number in the customer's hand — thermal or any browser printer.
Connect a thermal printer to the iPad
The iPad prints visit slips straight to a network thermal printer over Wi-Fi.
- 1Connect the thermal printer to the same Wi-Fi network as the iPad (not a guest network).
- 2Open Settings → Thermal Printer and enter the printer's IP address (port 9100 is the standard).
- 3Run a test print to confirm the connection.
- 4Slips now print automatically when visits are created — and can be reprinted from Visit Details.
Tip: If a print fails, the visit is still saved. Fix the connection, then use “Reprint Slip” from Visit Details.
Print from the web app (browser print)
The web app prints slips through the normal browser print dialog to your default printer — no extra software.
- 1On the reception PC or tablet, set your receipt printer as the operating system's default printer.
- 2In Settings → Printing, pick your paper roll width (80 mm or 58 mm) and print a test slip.
- 3Print per visit from Reception (each active-visit card and the banner after creating a visit), Visit Details, or All Visits.
- 4In the browser's print dialog, disable headers/footers once for the cleanest slip.
Tip: Slips only ever show public-safe info — the visit number, services, and section. Never phone numbers or notes.
Team, roles & devices
Who can do what, and how everyone signs in on their own device.
Understand roles and permissions
Four roles cover the whole salon, each seeing exactly what it needs.
- 1Owner — everything: settings, staff, billing, all branches, dashboard.
- 2Manager — runs the branch: reception, queues, visits, dashboard, most settings.
- 3Reception — creates visits, checks in appointments, prints slips.
- 4Section staff — their section's queue: call, start, complete.
Sign in with a station code
Shared iPads (reception desk, Hair station) unlock with a short code + PIN — no personal accounts needed.
- 1On the sign-in screen, choose station login.
- 2Enter the station code and PIN your owner/manager created in Settings.
- 3The device opens directly to that station's screen — reception or the section queue.
- 4Sign out from Settings when the station changes hands.
Sign in to the web dashboard
Owners and managers get the full realtime dashboard in any browser.
- 1Go to the SaloonQ website and click Sign in.
- 2Use your account email and password (same as the iPad app).
- 3The dashboard unlocks automatically when your salon has an active subscription.
Install SaloonQ on Android phones (web app)
Staff on Android use the web app installed straight from Chrome — no Play Store needed.
- 1Open Chrome on the Android phone and go to the SaloonQ website.
- 2Open the Chrome menu (⋮) in the top corner.
- 3Tap “Install app” (or “Add to Home screen”) and confirm.
- 4Open SaloonQ from the home screen — it runs full-screen, straight to sign-in.
- 5Sign in with an account or a station code + PIN.
Tip: SaloonQ needs an internet connection — there's intentionally no offline mode, so staff never act on a stale queue.
Billing & branches
Plans, payments, and growing beyond one location.
Manage, change, or cancel your subscription
Billing runs entirely through Apple, so you're always in control from your own device.
- 1On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions (or use “Manage subscription” inside SaloonQ).
- 2Switch between Basic/Pro or monthly/annual, or cancel — changes follow Apple's standard rules.
- 3Your salon keeps full access until the end of the paid period.
Tip: SaloonQ never sees or stores your card — Apple handles all payment details.
Run multiple branches (Pro)
Pro's one difference from Basic: one account that covers multiple branches.
- 1Upgrade to Pro if you're on Basic.
- 2Contact support and we'll add your new branches to your account — branch setup is done for you.
- 3Each branch gets its own sections, services, staff, displays, queues, and reports.
- 4You manage them all from one owner account.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers, organized by topic.
General
What is SaloonQ?
SaloonQ is a salon operations platform: a smart customer queue, a live waiting-room display, reception and staff-role management, multi-service journeys, realtime sync, thermal visit-slip printing, and multi-branch analytics. It runs on iPad and iPhone, with a web dashboard for owners and managers and a dedicated Android TV app for the waiting-room display.
Is SaloonQ a POS or payment system?
No. SaloonQ is an operations and queue platform, not a point-of-sale. It organizes the front of house — walk-ins, queues, sections, staff, and the waiting-room display — and works alongside whatever POS or payment system you already use.
What devices do I need?
An iPad at reception and on the floor (iPhone is also supported), an Android TV (or any TV or screen) for the live waiting-room display, and a web browser for the owner/manager dashboard. A thermal receipt printer is optional for visit slips.
Do customers need to install an app?
No. Customers never install anything. They simply get a visit number at reception and watch the live display for their turn.
How long does setup take?
Minutes. Create your salon, add your branch, sections, services, and staff, and you're ready to take your first walk-in. No onboarding call required.
Is there a free trial or demo?
You can explore the full app instantly with built-in Demo Mode — sample salon data, no account and no card required. Download SaloonQ and tap “Continue in Demo Mode”.
Queue & appointments
How does the salon queue work?
Reception adds each walk-in as a visit, and checked-in appointments join the same queue automatically. Customers flow through your sections (hair, nails, makeup, and more) in a fair, first-ready order — booked clients are called first, and a walk-in who has waited past your limit is bumped up so no one is forgotten.
Do appointments and walk-ins share one queue?
Yes. Checked-in appointments and walk-ins run in one fair queue with a single visit-number series. Booked clients get priority, and a walk-in who has waited longer than your set limit (30 minutes by default) is automatically promoted so appointments can't keep skipping her.
Can one visit include several services in different sections?
Yes — that's the multi-service journey. One visit can include hair, nails, and makeup; the customer moves from section to section under one visit number, and Visit Details shows the status and timing of every service.
Is everything realtime across devices?
Yes. Reception, section queues, the live display, and the dashboard all update in realtime, so reception, staff, and managers always see the same up-to-date floor.
Live display
How does the live waiting-room display work?
Put an Android TV, iPad, or any browser screen in the waiting area and SaloonQ shows a “now serving” board — one entry per section, so Hair, Nails, and Makeup can each show who they're serving at the same time.
How do I pair an Android TV?
Install the SaloonQ display app on the TV; it shows a QR code and a short code. From your iPad, scan the QR (or enter the code) and choose which display screen the TV shows. Pairing takes seconds, and a paired TV can be revoked at any time.
Can I brand the waiting-room display?
Yes. The live display is fully customizable — set your own colors, background, and salon logo so the waiting-room screen looks like your brand, not a generic board.
Does the TV show customer names or phone numbers?
No. The display only shows the public board — visit numbers per section. It never signs in with your salon account and never sees private customer data.
Printing
Does SaloonQ print customer tickets?
Yes. It prints visit slips — number, services, and section — from a thermal receipt printer or any browser printer, with an optional silent local-print agent for USB thermal printers.
What's printed on a visit slip?
Only public-safe info: your salon/branch name, the visit number (large), the selected services, and the first section to head to. A slip never includes the customer's phone, notes, or prices.
Which printers are supported?
On iPad: network thermal printers (Wi-Fi, standard port 9100, ESC/POS). On the web: any printer your computer can print to via the normal browser dialog — including 80 mm and 58 mm thermal rolls.
Billing & plans
How much does SaloonQ cost?
Basic is $49.99/month or $399.99/year (save 33%). Pro is $79.99/month or $499.99/year (save 48%). Prices are in USD and billed securely through your Apple ID.
What's the difference between Basic and Pro?
Only the number of branches. Both plans include the full app — queue, live display, reception, sections, appointments, dashboard, analytics, printing, and staff logins. Basic covers one branch; Pro lets you create and manage multiple branches with cross-branch visibility.
How do I subscribe, change, or cancel my plan?
Subscribe inside the iOS app to unlock the app and the web dashboard. Because billing runs through your Apple ID, you can change or cancel anytime from Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
I subscribed but the web dashboard still asks me to subscribe.
It can take a few moments to sync. On the web “Subscription required” screen, tap “I've subscribed — re-check.” If it persists, contact us.
Accounts & security
How do staff sign in?
The salon owner creates station codes (and PINs) in Settings; staff sign in with those on shared devices, or with their own account email and password.
What staff roles and permissions are supported?
Owners, managers, reception, and section staff each get role-based access. Everything syncs live across devices, and staff can sign in with a station code or their own account.
Is my salon's data secure?
Each salon can only access its own data, protected by authentication and row-level security. Payment details are handled entirely by Apple — SaloonQ never sees or stores your card.
Does SaloonQ work offline?
No — SaloonQ needs an active internet connection. That's intentional: there is no offline cache, so staff never act on stale queue information. If the connection drops, reconnect to Wi-Fi and the live data returns.
Troubleshooting
Something's off? Start here — most issues have a one-minute fix.
“Sign in failed” on the login screen
Fix: Check the device is on the salon Wi-Fi (open any website to confirm internet). Retry with the exact email and password from your manager. If it still fails, send us a screenshot of the red error text.
“Some data did not load” after signing in
Fix: That's a network blip during startup. Tap “Continue with Available Data” if shown, or sign out and sign in again so everything reloads.
The queue is empty but customers are waiting
Fix: Check you're in the right branch and section, and that today's visits were actually created at Reception. Switching sections from the section picker usually reveals them.
Call / Start buttons don't do anything
Fix: You're likely in Demo Mode, or the device lost its connection. Exit Demo Mode (account and station-code logins both sync live), confirm the device has internet, then retry.
Devices show different queues (not syncing)
Fix: Confirm every device is signed in to the Cloud Account (not Demo Mode) and has internet. Signing out and back in reconnects realtime sync.
Printer “succeeds” but nothing prints
Fix: Verify the printer and device are on the same Wi-Fi (not a guest network), the IP and port 9100 are correct in printer settings, the printer has paper and is online — then run a test print. The visit is always saved regardless; reprint from Visit Details.
Web slip prints with browser headers and page numbers
Fix: In the browser's print dialog, turn off “Headers and footers” once — the browser remembers it for next time.
The waiting-room TV went back to the pairing screen
Fix: The TV was revoked or lost its pairing. Re-pair it: open the display pairing screen on your iPad and scan the QR code shown on the TV.
The web dashboard says “Subscription required” after I subscribed
Fix: Tap “I've subscribed — re-check” on that screen. New subscriptions can take a few moments to sync from Apple. If it persists after a few minutes, email us.
